Mark Alford is a husband, father, former small business owner and former TV news anchor, and proudly represents Missouri’s 4th District in Congress. Alford spent 25 years anchoring Kansas City’s #1 morning news show prior to his time in Congress.
His time covering Missouri’s top news stories connected him to thousands of Missourian families of all walks of life, providing insight into the issues most important to Missouri families, and the struggles most common to them. It also offered the opportunity to hone his God-given talents as a professional communicator, enhancing his voice to inform, influence, and inspire millions of people across Missouri.
Alford’s experience behind the news desk gave him a front row view to the constant attacks against our nation’s founding principles from an increasingly liberal, progressive ideology that threatens to undermine our country’s values of faith, family, hard work, and individual liberty.
Alford’s serves as a megaphone to each and every Missourian in the 4th district, magnifying their voices and their values in Washington, D.C.
Over the years, Alford’s voice helped raise millions of dollars for charities both locally and nationally, and served dozens of boards, foundations, churches, civic organizations, families, and strangers. Alford and his wife Leslie have been married 33 years and share three grown children.
After being sworn into the 118th Congress as a freshman member, Alford was selected to the House Armed Services Committee, House Agriculture committee, and House Small Business committee.

Missouri’s 4th congressional district comprises west-central Missouri. It stretches from the northern half of Columbia to the southern and eastern suburbs of Kansas City, including a sliver of Kansas City in Cass County and parts of Blue Springs in Jackson County. It also includes the northern portion of Columbia, home to the University of Missouri (but not the university itself).
The district is predominantly rural and relatively conservative; George W. Bush defeated John Kerry 64% to 35% in the 2004 election and John McCain defeated Barack Obama 61% to 38% in the 2008 election. The district is currently represented by Republican Mark Alford, a former reporter for WDAF-TV, the city’s Fox affiliate.
This district had historically been a Democratic Party stronghold. Antipathy to the Republican Party had its origins in the American Civil War and the infamous General Order 11. The Union Army ordered evacuation of the county in an attempt to reduce support for and the power of bushwhacker guerrillas. After the Civil War, there was disfranchisement of white males (mostly Democrats) who had been active for the Confederacy until they took loyalty oaths, or until 1870. The area was filled with conflict between Missouri’s Radicals, who joined the Republicans, and Conservatives, who were Democrats. By 1880 former secessionists dominated Missouri’s congressional delegation and state legislature.

Mark Allen Alford Sr. (born October 4, 1963) is an American politician and former television news anchor serving as the U.S. representative for Missouri’s 4th congressional district since 2023. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Early life and career
Alford Sr. was born in Baytown, Texas.[1][2] He attended Sterling High School and the University of Texas at Austin, but left college without graduating.[3]
Alford Sr. worked for KPRC-TV in Houston as a reporter and weekend anchor for News 2 Houston from 1995 and 1998. Before that, he was anchor for KDFW-TV in Dallas and a reporter with WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach; KWTX-TV in Waco; and KXAN-TV in Austin.[4] In 1998, he went to WDAF-TV in Kansas City as an anchor for Fox 4 News and stayed there for 23 years. He announced his resignation on October 8, 2021.[5]

Elections
On October 27, 2021, Alford Sr. announced his candidacy for the United States House of Representatives in Missouri’s 4th congressional district as a Republican in the 2022 elections.[6][7] He won the Republican nomination in the August 2 primary election[8] and won the November 8 general election.[9]
Tenure
Alford Sr. was among the 71 Republicans who voted against final passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 in the House.[10]
He voted to provide Israel with support following 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.[11][12]

Personal life
Alford Sr. and his wife, Leslie, have three children, Mark Allen Alford Jr., Alexandria Naomi Francis, and Spencer “Jasper” Adkins Alford.[14] They live in Lake Winnebago, a suburb of Kansas City. Alford is a member of Evangel Church, an Assemblies of God megachurch in Kansas City.
